1. Annual Shell Show,  Thurs, Friday & Sat, March 12-14. The Marco Island Shell Club will be hosting their Annual Shell Show at the Marco Presbyterian Church, located at 875 West Elkcam Circle from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.The show will have juried scientific and artistic exhibits as well as shell crafts and specimen shells for sale. Door prizes will also be drawn.
 
2.  Arts & Crafts Show, Thursday and Friday, March 12 & 13, 2009 at St Marks Episcopal Church 10 AM-- 4 PM.  N. Collier Blvd & Elkcam Circle.
 
3. Free guided nature walks are offered 8:30  Tigertail Beach, Tuesday- Friday through Apr 24 with Conservancy of Southwest Florida.  Parking is free with a Collier County Beach sticker, otherwise parking is $6.  Meet the Guide at the Kiosk.  Phone 262-0304 or visit www.conservancy.org for more information. 
 
4. "Block Party" Saturday, March 14,2009 at St. Marks Episcopal Church from 10 AM to  4PM, N. Collier Blvd & Elkcam Circle.  proceeds to benefit the American Cancer Society.

5. Community Conservation Celebration: Saturday, March 14, 2009. The second annual will be at Mackle Park, 1361 Andalusia Terrace, 9 a.m. through 2 p.m., .There will be wildlife... there will be native Florida fauna... there will be hands-on activities... and, most of all, there will be education and fun. Unique native flora and fauna will be featured along with free demonstrations, community and student projects, exhibits from federal, state, and local agencies, local ‘---green’ businesses, and photo and essay contests.   For more information contact Nancy Richie, Environmental Specialist 239-389-5003

6.  My FAVORITE: "DOG WASH"  Bring your dog to get pampered and treated to a wash and comb.  Sunday, March 15, 2009  10 AM- 3 PM.  Where:The Parking Lot in front of Kretch’s.  (See flyer below) All proceeds go to the Humane Society.  If  you don't have a "Dog to spruce up"  or can't fit Sunday into your schedule --you can make a donation, address to  mail  contributions to be provided on Friday "Marco Happenings". Kudos to Ms. Victoria DiSciullo and Ms. Alessea Lane for hosting this worthwhile event!
 
7.Saul I. Stern Cultural Series, Sunday, March 15, 2009, at 7:30 pm  The third event of the Saul I. Stern Cultural Series, is now in its 16th continuous year,  and will take place , at the Jewish Congregation of Marco Island, 991 Winterberry Drive, Marco Island.  The speaker, David O. Stewart, is an authority on the Constitution and former Chief Law Clerk to Supreme Court Justice Lewis Powell.  He will discuss his book "The Summer of 1787:  The Men Who Invented the Constitution".  The author takes us inside the sweltering rooms where the delegates met, from diverse backgrounds.  He will tell about the gossip, bargaining and comprises that produced one of the greatest documents in the world--that defines our nation, then and now--the Constitution of the United States. A reception and book-signing follows.  Tickets are $20 for members;  $25 for non-members and students are admitted without charge.  For information call 642-0800.
 
8.  MONDAY NIGHT BINGO, every Monday evening through May 4th at the Jewish Congregation of Marco Island, .  Monday, March 16 is free Kosher Hot Dog Night,  Each player also receives sauerkraut, relish, pickles and chips, fruit, pastry, coffee and tea, without charge.  Doors open at 6 PM, the first numbers are posted at 6:15 PM and the game is called at 7 PM  For further information call 642-0800

Where: The Parking Lot in front of Kretch’s

 

Cost: Small dogs (up to about 15 pounds): $5.00

Medium dogs (15-45 pounds): $6.00

Large dogs (over 45 pounds): $7.00

 

All proceeds go towards the care and comfort of the animals at the Humane Society of Naples. Donations are accepted and greatly appreciated.
